Amazing race, amazing people, amazing finishing off my season
My time in South Africa has been filled with so many impressions, emotions and experiences that it counts for months! It’s crazy, how all the sudden it feels weird not to wake up at 5.15 AM any more to squeeze down breakfast before heading off to the buzzing start area all accompanied by butterflies in my belly caused by the uncertainty about the adventures ahead.
My teammate for the race Ariane Kleinhans and me had a blast of a week. Not having raced together before, it was exciting how everything would work out. Or actually, I wasn’t that nervous, since I had this feeling that we would work out very well. And we did! Off course it’s always easier, when you win the race and when you have the best support team behind you to take care of your bike and make everything else run smooth. Our way of thinking and attitude matches very well and we talked a lot about everything and how we felt in certain situations. The better you know how your racing partner thinks, the less misunderstandings.
I’ve snapshotted a few pictures, take the tour below:
The pet at our first accommodation – not very cuddly though
Scenic roadtrip with team RE:CM from Stellenbosch to racestart in Oudtshoorn
Lyle – who daily brought us by car between accommodation and race venue – here surrounded by two fast girls
When the rain flooded everything, survival mode made people creative
At the massage zoo – Jeremy kept my legs run one day after the other
My sweet ride, S-Works Fate. A lone rider in a country where people don’t fancy hardtails much – I think they have a little more perspective on that now 😉
S-Works Fate
Tyres: Specialized Control Fast trak ( 2.2 front, 2.0 rear)
Drivetrain: SRAM XX1, 32 chainblade
Survived the previous day’s mud bath and still going strong
A new day – a new venue

Glad you had a good time here. You and Arianne raised the standard of women’s stage race racing, which was a joy to watch and report on. Hope you’ll be back. We have loads more great races you should try…
