Finally I’m back on the bike after a much needed break after Cape Pioneer. It was really great especially mentally to put away the bike for a while, but I also think, that going from the tremendous effort of a stage race to doing absolutely nothing was a little bit of a shock to my body. On the third week of being completely inactive, I was going out of my skin, no doubt about my body works the best when it gets exercised.
This weekend has been awesome. I’ve been on the cyclocross bike both days doing some local races. It was so much fun! I can’t remember the last time, getting back on the bike has felt so great. I did a little bit of cyclocross three years ago and this winter I though it would be fun to do a few races. I can really recommend cyclocross to all cyclists, who want to try something new. Cyclocross is intense and you really hone your allround basic skills on any kind of bike. Especially cornering, fast de- and ascending the bike, explosivity and maintaining speed on slippery and bumpy ground. In summary – you need to ride efficiently to be fast.
Another bonus about these danish cyclocross races is, that they are not at all as crowded as other winter mountainbike races. The women’s category would love to see more faces, so girls – don’t hesitate. (If you don’t feel like investing in yet another bike, you are also allowed to ride your mountain bike)
Cyclocross is bloody hard and since my training motivation is huge after this weekend, I must remind myself that now is not the time to burn all my race energy. This week I will start the basic training, that will see me racing fast next year. And speaking of which – I will very soon be able to present you my setup and race schedule for 2014!
